What I love about creating art is how life inspires my art and how art inspires my life. My recent series of BIG, BOLD, BEAUTIFUL Birds is a great example of this. In this month’s blog, I am celebrating this vibrant collection and its journey from concept to existence!

It started with a course! That’s the odd thing about art…you never know what will be your next inspiration. The course had this fantastic tagline – Live your BIG, BOLD,BEAUTIFUL Life and I thought – oo I’ll have me some of that. So I signed up in the first week of January, ready to start the year with passion and panache.

It was incredibly motivating and got me thinking about how women in particular (although not exclusively) all over the world still:

  • Keep themselves small
  • Stick within their comfort zones
  • Forget their lives matter as they run around looking after everybody else.

Does this resonate with you? It hit home some truth bombs for me. I had been doing all three. And I realised at that moment – I didn’t want to be like this. I wanted courage, confidence and conviction to lead the way and I wanted to inspire others to want the same. I needed to communicate this message through my creativity. Life was indeed inspiring my art.

BIG, BOLD, BEAUTIFUL BIRDS Arrive!

One gloomy Sunday afternoon, I found myself sketching out some folk-style birds. I was loving the shapes of each bird as they flew onto the pages of my sketchpad. They felt so free.

I began experimenting with patterns and plumage and possible eyes, wings and beaks. I suddenly felt a tremble of magic as an idea began to spark. These sketches could evolve into BIG, BOLD, BEAUTIFUL BIRDS! Yes…I loved this idea. They could communicate the message that was deep inside of me ready to fly freely. As I carried on sketching, I heard big bold beautiful anthems by big bold beautiful birds fill my mind – like Aretha’s Respect and Sia’s Titanium. Ooo and Chaka Khan belted out I’m Every Woman! Oh my it was a sensory onslaught and I felt motivated into action. If I felt stirred in this way, then surely others would be inspired too.

Art Inspires life – A Big, Bold, Beautiful Message

As I painted my Big, BOLD, BEAUTIFUL Birds, something magical was happening. I was evolving into a BIG, BOLD, BEAUTIFUL Bird myself. I was encouraged to:

  • Think BIG
  • Act BOLD
  • Live my BEAUTIFUL LIfe – ALWAYS!

More and more, art was influencing my life. And others were feeling the energy too. I had so many beautiful and positive comments on social media and from friends and family who could see the collection in real life.
