Fox and the Rose is a whimsical fox painting inspired by stories I read as a child.

In stories, fox is the trickster. He is cunning and sly. Luring his prey into his traps.

In this painting, Fox is tricked by rose or rather transfixed by the beauty rose. He so desperately wants to be rose, he forgets to eat and sleep.

He is warned by Owl of the dangers with fixating on beauty alone.

But he pays no heed.

Soon his body turns as thin as a rose stem and his fine red hair becomes course and thorny. His once handsome face loses its lustrous snow white beard so only pink skin is seen.

Fox is turning into a pink rose.

He sees his future in the crystal light of a shining teardrop. And realises this is not what he wants.

But what should he do?

He sees a shooting star overhead and wishes his desire deeply. I am happy as a fox… he thinks.

The next morning he awakes as Fox once more. He recognises his folly and realises he can appreciate others and their beauty without sacrificing his own unique, authentic self.

This painting would make a beautiful addition to a gallery wall and remind you of it’s potent message – you are beautiful just as you are.
