This spiritual owl print – The Essence of Nurture – is a limited edition. The original is part of a series of 4 paintings exploring the mother archetype. The 4 aspects explored in this series are creation, nurture, inspiration and letting go.

Inspired by the aspect of mother that is nurturing, this soulful owl painting is rich in spiritual symbolism.

The mother and owlet are the central focus of this spiritual owl print. The composition is based upon religious iconography paintings of Mary and Jesus.

The two owls are painted within a textured, semi 3D arched window reminiscent of churches. It is created from modelling paste. This creates an intimate setting for mother and child.

It could represent nurturing your inner mother and inner child in order to support the growth of your own creations.

Behind the mother the halo is painted in blues and greens to give it the look of Earth. This connects the mother owl to Mother Earth. In Mayan culture she is known as The Great Mother. Rays of gold are layered on top.

I used warm golden tones of orange as an homage to Demeter from Greek mythology, another example of the nurturing mother.

Two rubies sparkle from each side of the arched window and 3 daisies decorate the base. My own two daughters are Ruby and Daisy and I felt it necessary to add them to this piece.
