Oh the wisdom of Owls – their mysticism and magic gives me goosebumps.
There’s something about an owl that makes you pause.
The wide, unblinking eyes.
The stillness that feels like they can see right through you.
The soft rustle of feathers in the night air.
Ghost-like, they carry such mystery and we can learn so much from these beautiful birds.
Owls - The Keepers of Wisdom
Across cultures and centuries, owls have been seen as guardians of wisdom, truth, and intuition. From the ancient Greek goddess Athena, who kept an owl by her side, to the storytellers of many Indigenous traditions who spoke of owls as keepers of sacred knowledge, these remarkable birds have long been symbols of deep understanding.
Spiritual Owl Wisdom
Owls are not loud teachers. They don’t shout their lessons. Instead, they invite us to listen – to the quiet, to the in-between spaces, to the things we can sense but not always see. In a world that moves fast, an owl reminds us of the value of stillness, observation, and trusting our inner knowing.
For me, owls carry the energy of the mother archetype – watching over, protecting, and nurturing with a silent but fierce love.
When I paint them, I feel a connection to that blend of gentle care and strong presence. I feel a strong connection to my own mum who sadly passed away 7 years ago.
But they also hold the energy of the wise woman too, Their great round eyes hold stories of creation, courage, and letting go. They remind us to see through the darkness and focus on what truly matters – love, peace, compassion.
And as I move towards my crone years, I am compelled to paint more owls with deep intuition coupled with playful delight.
