Art is Healing

In today’s post, I am going to discuss how art heals – how it healed me – and how it can be healing for you. Did you know that even just by looking at art on a daily basis, reduces your stress hormone – cortisol? I love this. This is what inspires me to create most of all. For this reason, I start the day with a doodles and sketches in my art journal as this is like a warm up for the day’s art. And so, it is no surprise that for me, it is a way to de -stress and reduce any feelings of anxiety. So even if you think you cannot draw (which I do not believe by the way) scribble, doodle and look at art and watch how your mood changes. Art is healing.

Art heals – A Mindful and Meditative Practice

Art is such a mindful practice and as a result I can really lose myself splashing inks or swiping thick paint. I feel like an artistic alchemist because I delight in taking my materials and transforming them into images worth beholding. I can create a world of colour and creativity that expresses and communicates. Consequently, I begin to see the beauty in a fragment and I can look at the world with a beginner’s eye. And so it is true when people say they lose themselves in art because this happens to me.

Art has helped me observe my surroundings and become connected with my landscape. This means that when I walk through the woodland and heath nearby, all the colours seem brighter. In addition, the sounds of the birds fill my ears as if hearing for the first time. Furthermore, words and thoughts sit positively in my mind and on the tip of my tongue. I feel renewed and ready for the ups and downs of life.

The Power of Art

Art is powerful like this – it heals. As a result, I believe the passion and energy I have can travel with my art. It has the potential to take this spirit wherever it goes.

Art has helped me explore my love of nature, music, storytelling and poetry. It has helped me engage in what truly matters to me – love, forgiveness, compassion, self-care and unity. I have abandoned anger and resentment with my paintbrush. With the ripping of patterned paper, I have reduced disappointment and lessened depression. My self love and self awareness has increased with the flick of a pencil. Ultimately, I have brought colour and creativity to my world on a daily basis. I hope to bring this to yours with my original art and limited edition prints. It is important that we all feel feel the power of art on a daily basis and experience its magic.
